Notes, links, and memories of everything San Francisco.

Muir Woods

Today, I shook hands with redwoods and ferns of Northern California in the Muir Woods, a National Park. I’ve never been in such a tall and peaceful forest before and the park is kept very clean and pristine, allowing you to only walk on the boardwalk trails. Absolutely stunning.

Probably one of the cutest, most charming, peaceful places that I’ve been to in a long time.

What a lovely thing… to drive across a bridge, away from the closeness of the City, and breathe fresh air and trees and small-town life.

I cannot wait to go back and keep exploring this gem.

Martuni's

A friend of mine took me to Martuni’s. A dark, intimate, jazzy, velvety, old, and adorable hole-in-the-wall bar. While it’s definitely not for everyone, I was completely charmed by the atmosphere and jovial audience members who all could easily get tipsy off of just one Watermelon martini (yum).

But the nicest thing about Martunis was the company, and the people who were so open, creating a fabulous community and vibe in the City.

So let the jazz (or Elton John) standards play on in a background: perfect for a great conversation and fun enough to be satiated with an incredibly fun Friday evening.

Harvey's Funny Tuesdays

Last night, I enjoyed the company of new friends in a lovely and historical street corner restaurant, bar, and free comedy club in the Castro.

With good food and drinks available, the space is intimate and a good performance venue for the various comedians who took the stage. All of them gloriously, shamelessly, and gladly picked at their audience members in the front rows for inspiration and entertainment— the outcome? Bringing everyone together and joyfully remarking on the ridiculousness and uniqueness of San Francisco.

Cheers to you, Harvey’s. I’ll be back.

  • Muni Driver: "Up next, Carl stop govenah!"
  • Me: laughing, looking around desperately to laugh with, someone to connect with... Then I realize I mistook his bad British accent of "govenah" for "coming up."
  • Don't mind me, just laughing hysterically for no apparent reason.
  • I fit right in on the Owl Lines.

Erik White :: "Gravitational Art"

Today I met a very kind artist by the name of Erik White, who has a showing currently at the City Art Gallery : a cooperative gallery on Valencia.

His work is interesting and touchable since it is made from latex based paints to create something he terms as “gravitational art.” His technique allows the painting to become what it wants to be with the use of gravity and the drying process. The end result is a topographical burst of color and goodness.

Check his work out at his website and also stop by the City Art Coop Gallery : http://www.cityartgallery.org/
